Laura Montenegro for Town Council

Social work manager with a speciality in gerontology

Laura is the Manager of Social Work for Integrated Health at Atlantic Health Systems. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Montclair State University, majoring in History with a minor in Religious Studies. She received her Master of Social Work from Rutgers University, where her focus was on Social Work Management. She also holds Certificates on Aging and Gerontological Services and Leadership Development. She is a part-time lecture at Rutgers School of Social Work, teaching graduate level course. She holds her clinical license and spends a few hours a week providing therapy sessions to clients at Tri-County Behavioral Health in Denville.

She sits on the Aging and Health Certificate Advisory Council for the School of Social Work at Rutgers University in New Brunswick and volunteers for the Radical Age Movement, a grass roots initiative to challenge ageism in the United States and build interdependent communities. She is a member of the Network of Social Work Management and the NASW-NJ chapter.

Church leader and community volunteer

Laura serves on Session as Elder at The First Presbyterian Church of Mendham (Hilltop Church), serving as Chair for Membership and Communication and also serves on the Personnel Committee. Over the course of her life, she has spent time volunteering by serving Meals-on-Wheels to older adults in Mendham Borough, serving food at the Soup Kitchen in Morristown, bringing meals and supplies to the residents at the Eric Johnson House in Morristown, has worked on various Habitat for Humanity projects in Randolph, Bernardsville and Morristown, and continues to provide free social service support to older adults living in our community. This summer, Laura and other members of Hilltop Church will be working with Family Promise to assist local, homeless parents and children who are waiting for permanent housing.

In 2018, she was proud to join the Board of Health for Mendham Borough.

Long time resident, committed to Mendham

Laura and her husband, Michael, have two daughters who have grown up in the Mendham Borough school system, both of whom attend Mendham High School.

She will bring her expertise in management, communication, and thoughtful decision making, along with her understanding of the human experience, to the Mendham Borough Council.
